History[]

In 1973-1974 years the Navy and industry organizations with CRI them. Acad. AN Krylov was carried out research work devoted to the justification of building an integrated anti-submarine system (KPLS). Functioning to provide a number of proposed KPLS to the creation of capabilities in research work, it was proposed to include helicopter support - supports the anti-helicopter.

It was assumed that such ships will be required to ensure the wide participation of helicopters in covering the underwater environment, searching for submarines, tracking them in peacetime, and their destruction with the outbreak of hostilities.

This idea is embodied in a prepared in 1977, the tactical and technical task of the Navy to develop a draft 10 200 (code "Khalzan") anti-helicopter high-speed large-capacity on the basis of a horizontal vessel with cargo handling (rolkera) project in 1609 such as "Captain Smirnov".

Development of the project was entrusted to 10 200 CDB "Chernomorsudproekt" (Nikolaev). Chief designer was appointed YT Kamenetskiy.Eskizny project was completed in late 1977. There are several options were considered: two of them provided for a ship, providing basing and 28-30 helicopters equipped with prospective or existing weapons complexes, and two others were converting mobilization options already built ships, with the possibility of basing up to 12 vertoletov.Polnoe displacement of the ship during all of the projects was 30 000 tonn.V result was approved version of the draft with 30 helicopters, such as the Kamov Ka-27, with completion to reduce the level of physical fields, including acoustic, as well as the introduction of improvements to stability and nepotoplyaemosti.Krome, in order to increase combat stability, it was recommended that the draft provisions to ensure long-term basing fighter VTOL Yakovlev Yak-41. The project was given the endorsement of the 1st Naval Institute.

The ship had carrier architecture: a free flight deck, with a shifted to the starboard side of the superstructure, which was also in the upper hangar housed below deck hangar 6 vertoletov.V served by two lifts, housed 28 helicopters.

The lead ship of the Project 10 200 Khalzan was put into operation in the early 1980s.
